2009 Relay for Life...

Last night a group of "PINK LADIES" from Williams Intermediate walked in the Relay for Life. Our group consisted of Deidra and Debbie, our cancer survivors, Sherry, D. Ann, Leann, and myself. I was the captain of our group and we walked in honor of Debbie, a 4th grade teacher, and Deidra, our school counselor. They have both battled cancer the past two years and have been troopers going to and from Amarillo several times a week, plus more, and still being dedicated to our students at school.

As the evening began...we watched Debbie and Deidra walk with pride on their survivor walks. Next, we ALL walked a lap or two as a team. As we were walking, my sweet hubby and Greg (Deidra's husband) were cooking fajitas for our supper. Once our laps were complete it was time to fill our belly's with fajitas, chips and salsa, watermelon, sugar cookies, and homemade ice-cream. After we were all stuffed with food, we decided to walk a few more laps. As we were walking, the clouds behind us were getting darker and darker and a few rain drops began to fall. Well, we weren't sure what to do so we kept on walking. The weather stayed good for us until the cermony was complete. Then, we packed up camp and headed home around 11:00. I must say we were the last team standing last night. We waited out the wind and rain until the lights were dimming and we were told that the night was coming to an end. We all had a great time just talking, walking, eating, and being the "PINK LADIES" of Perryton, TX!!!

Our team: D. Ann, Leann, Deidra, Debbie, Me, and Sherry

Deidra walking her survivor lap with a SMILE!!!

Debbie and her husband, Terry, who have both battled cancer the past few years!!!

As the sky began to dim, the sign of HOPE was lit!!!

The luminaries were lit in memory of and for the cancer survivors. At one point, all the walkers and their families joined hands and listened as a song was played. I am sure their wasn't a dry eye in the park. It was very touching!!!
